JUDI SIMON

Artist Statement

As a career medical illustrator, I have always been a technical, representational artist. My subject matter at that time, was generally medical or biological in nature. However, during retirement years, I have developed eclectic tastes in painting subjects and how they are traditionally viewed. I am still drawn to detail and how light, shadow and color visually affect objects within a still life, portrait or landscape, no matter the angle. I try to create depth and excitement in a painting by balancing the lights and darks within the colors and the overall composition. My goal is to draw the viewer into a painting, emotionally or intellectually and to spend personal time enjoying that painting.
